Somaliland delegation eyes Israeli military presence to strengthen cooperation against Houthis

Ahmed Dirie, chairperson of the executive committee of the Israel and Somaliland Friendship Association, has advocated for a military partnership between Somaliland and Israel, potentially including an Israeli military presence in Somaliland. Dirie stated that such cooperation would strengthen efforts against Houthi terrorists, highlighting Somaliland's strategic location near the Bab al-Mandab Strait. He emphasized that "If they get help from the Israelis, they can beat the Houthis and make it safe." While Somaliland's Defense Minister and President previously denied ongoing negotiations for an Israeli base, the President left open the possibility for future arrangements. Dirie also mentioned Somaliland's readiness to contribute up to 2,000 troops to an international stabilization force in Gaza.
