Son of ambassador Yechiel Leiter identified as soldier seriously wounded in Maccabim terror attack

Neria Leiter, an IDF reservist and American citizen, was seriously wounded in a car-ramming attack at the Maccabim checkpoint on Wednesday. He is the son of Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter, whose other son, Maj. (res.) Moshe Yedidya, was killed in Gaza in 2023. Neria underwent multi-hour brain surgery and remains in very serious condition at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the family, and Ambassador Leiter is returning to Israel from the US. Yechiel Leiter expressed gratitude, stating, “I am grateful to the IDF, to the medical team at Shaare Zedek who are now fighting to save the life of Neria Dov ben Chana, and for the prayers of the people of Israel.” The terrorist, Muhammad Mahmoud Suleiman, 29, was killed by IDF troops at the scene; he was not known for prior security offenses and used a stolen license plate. Numerous Israeli officials, including President Isaac Herzog and US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, offered support and prayers for Neria's recovery.
