South Carolina likely to elect pro-Israel senator with less foreign policy expertise, focus than Graham, experts say

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced Darline Graham Nordone will serve the remainder of her late brother Senator Lindsey Graham's term. Experts anticipate that while Graham's long-term successor will likely be pro-Israel, they will probably not possess the same level of foreign policy expertise or make Israel as central to their political identity as Graham did. Christopher Cooper, a political science professor, noted, "Whoever ends up getting this seat, they’re not going to have as much foreign policy experience as Lindsey Graham." Another expert, Scott Huffmon, added that it would be challenging for any replacement to be "as much of a foreign policy hawk as Lindsey Graham was." A special primary is scheduled for August 11, with a potentially crowded field of candidates expected.
