Space is becoming the next battlefield, Iranian UN envoy warns of arms race – report

Iran's UN envoy, Ali Bahreini, warned on August 10 that US efforts to weaponize space could intensify an arms race, stating, "The development of US military and offensive space capabilities could push other countries to develop counter-capabilities and intensify the arms race in space." This comes as Iran expands its own space program, with plans to open new facilities like the Chabahar launch site and develop radar and communications satellites. Israel also prioritizes space, with IDF Technology and Digital Chief Brig.-Gen. Yael Grosman emphasizing the need for robust space capabilities to support future warfare and data needs. Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Israel is developing space-based lasers for attacks, aiming to be the leading country in this capability to ensure deterrence against adversaries who might target Israeli satellites.
