Spanish far-right activists use Nazi-style salutes in anti-migrant protests

Dozens of far-right activists from the ultra-nationalist anti-immigrant group Núcleo Nacional performed Nazi-style salutes and sang a fascist anthem in Madrid on Wednesday during protests against the government's migration policies. The demonstrations, which drew approximately 50,000 people, followed an influx of migrants from Morocco into Ceuta, a Spanish territory. Activists chanted, "Ceuta is not for sale, Ceuta will defend itself" and sang "Cara al Sol," an anthem from Francisco Franco's regime. A Núcleo Nacional spokesperson claimed the gesture was an "Iberian or Roman salute" representing their ancestors, not a Nazi salute. The protest concluded with clashes between demonstrators and police, resulting in four arrests and four injured officers. The Spanish government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, condemned "the violent acts that occurred at the end of the gatherings in Madrid."
