Surf’s pup: Some 20 dogs make a splash at annual World Dog Surfing Championships in California

The 10th annual World Dog Surfing Championships took place last Saturday at Linda Mar Beach in California, featuring approximately 20 canine competitors. The sport, conceived in 2006 by K. Reed, has grown to inspire similar events globally. This year's overall champion was five-year-old Labrador retriever Rippin Rosie, who also won the stand-up paddleboarding category with owner Steve Drottar. Other top finishers included Iza, a French bulldog, and Bradley “Shortboard” Cooper, a mixed-breed. The event, which drew hundreds of spectators, also saw 11-year-old Charlie, a yellow Lab, as the oldest contestant. A portion of the proceeds from contestant sponsorships benefits local charities.
