Suspected assassin of crime boss Yanis Yushvaev arrested after manhunt

Israeli police arrested the main suspect in the killing of organized crime figure Yanis Yushvaev on Tuesday evening, concluding a two-day manhunt. The suspect, an older man, was found in a Hadera apartment building's storage room and did not resist arrest, though a utility knife was found on him. The elite Yamam counterterrorism unit conducted the arrest due to intelligence suggesting the suspect might be armed. Yushvaev, in his 40s and an Or Akiva resident, was shot at point-blank range on Sunday at a gas station near the Caesarea interchange. Police described Yushvaev as the head of a criminal organization linked to Israel’s Caucasus community and a prominent target for years, involved in numerous underworld disputes. Police stated, "Following a manhunt and intelligence direction from the Coastal District Central Unit, Yamam fighters operated in Hadera and arrested suspects involved in the murder."
