Taylor Farms recalls salsa, guacamole over salmonella risk, weeks after cyclosporiasis concerns

Taylor Farms has issued a voluntary recall of prepared food items, including salsas and guacamole, containing jalapeños due to potential salmonella contamination. This action follows notification that Coast Citrus Distributors was recalling fresh peppers, with Taylor Farms ceasing sourcing from a specific farmer in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as a potential source. The CDC and FDA are investigating a salmonella outbreak that has sickened 345 people across 27 states, leading to 36 hospitalizations. Restaurants like Chipotle and Qdoba, which received affected jalapeños, have stopped using them. Taylor Farms is also under scrutiny for a cyclosporiasis outbreak linked by the FDA to its products from Central Mexico, though the company states the FDA has not confirmed positive sample tests for cyclospora on its lettuce. The company has voluntarily suspended iceberg lettuce sourcing from central Mexico and initiated a safety review.
