Technion scientists receive grants for cancer research on pregnancy, heart disease, recurrance

Three Technion-Israel Institute of Technology faculty members have received research grants from the Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) for various cancer studies.

• Professor Irit Ben Aharon received a Research Professorship grant to investigate the long-term effects of chemotherapy administered during pregnancy on children, noting that her findings "indicate that the apparent effect in some of the offspring follows a latent, or delayed, pattern and emerges in adulthood."
• Dr. Ido Livneh was awarded a Project grant to study the "backup systems" that allow cancer cells to survive and lead to recurrence, even before developing treatment resistance.
• Dr. Shira Landau received a Career Development Award to research the shared mechanisms between heart disease and cancer, aiming to develop an Organ-on-a-Chip model to understand their reciprocal biological communication and identify new treatment targets.
