Tel Aviv's Animix festival combines political satire, cartoons with tributes, memorials, lectures
Alongside tributes and lectures, five-day event packs in live performances, gaming, and comics fair.
The 26th Animix International Animation, Comics, and Caricature Festival will take place at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque from August 4-8. The festival will feature exhibitions, screenings, workshops, and discussions with Israeli and international artists, with a strong focus on emerging talents.
- This year's program will address Israel's current political and social climate, including the events of October 7, through satire and personal narratives.
- Moroccan cartoonist Saad Jalal will be the guest of honor, delivering a lecture titled “Caricature – Between Fiction and Intelligence” on the role of cartoonists today.
- The festival will honor deceased Iranian-French graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi with a tribute titled “Marjane Satrapi Is Not Dead,” and present a lifetime achievement award to Israeli artist Dovi Keich.
- Discussions will also cover trauma and historical memory, including the Holocaust and the Rwandan genocide, through the lens of comics.
