The Knesset is Slated to Complete a Full Term, but Israel Still Ranks Among the Countries with the Most Frequent Elections

Israel is preparing for elections for the 26th Knesset on October 27, 2026. This will be the first time since 1988 that a Knesset has completed its full term, following 13 consecutive early dissolutions. Despite this, Israel remains among the countries with the most frequent elections among OECD parliamentary democracies, ranking second-to-last with an average election frequency of every 2.5 years. This high frequency is largely due to the period between 2019 and 2022, when five elections were held. While early parliamentary dissolution is common in many parliamentary democracies, Israel's historical frequency of elections has been notably high.
