The Sbarro bomber’s American saga: Ahlam Tamimi escaped Israel – US failed to bring her to justice

Frimet and Arnold Roth, parents of Sbarro bombing victim Malki Roth, have been advocating for 15 years for the extradition of bomber Ahlam Tamimi to the US. Tamimi, released in the 2011 Schalit deal, lives freely in Jordan despite being charged in 2013 by the US Department of Justice under a federal statute concerning the use of weapons of mass destruction against US nationals abroad. The charges were unsealed in 2017, and the FBI placed Tamimi on its Most Wanted Terrorists list. However, Jordan's highest court ruled the 1995 extradition treaty with the US invalid due to a lack of parliamentary ratification, preventing her extradition. The US State Department maintains the treaty is valid and, in 2018, announced a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to Tamimi's arrest or conviction.
