Three-quarters of religion-based hate crimes in Hawaii last year targeted Jews, who are less than 1% of the state

In 2025, three out of four religion-based hate crimes in Hawaii targeted Jews, who constitute less than 1% of the state's population, according to official statistics from the state's attorney general. Overall, Jews were targets of 6.8% of all hate crimes in Hawaii last year, indicating a disproportionate targeting. One notable incident involved Eric Lee Boltz, 51, charged with sending "a series of threatening and antisemitic voicemails with Hawaii Gov. Josh Green’s office" in December 2025. While Rabbi Itchel Krasnjansky of Chabad in Hawaii stated, "we don’t experience really any antisemitism, besides for the pro-Palestinian crap that goes on here, like everywhere else," Mimi Lind of Jewish Community Services of Hawaii noted that reported incidents likely understate the actual harassment experienced by the Jewish community.
