Toronto police arrest two pro-Palestinian activists for willful promotion of hatred

Toronto Police have arrested two more individuals, Daniela Bonamico, 40, and Shahram Nayeb-Yazdi, 63, for willful promotion of hatred and public incitement of hatred, bringing the total number of arrests in an ongoing hate propaganda investigation to eight. The charges stem from a March 15 pro-Palestinian protest at Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West, where the accused allegedly displayed antisemitic signs and shouted derogatory slurs at pro-Israel counter-protesters. Jewish groups, including CIJA, B'nai Brith Canada, and UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, had demanded enforcement of Canada's hate propaganda laws following the incident. CIJA welcomed the arrests, stating, "There must be consequences for promoting hatred." These arrests occur amidst a rise in incidents targeting Jewish and Israeli institutions across Canada.
