Trump admin, Saudi Arabia announce nuclear agreement

The Trump administration announced a "peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement" with Saudi Arabia, which U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated upholds "the highest standards of nuclear safety and nonproliferation." This deal aims to provide a legal foundation for a multi-billion-dollar partnership, offering American companies access to Saudi Arabia's nuclear energy program and benefiting U.S. industry. The agreement will be reviewed by Congress.

Morton Klein, national president of the Zionist Organization of America, called the agreement "a serious, dangerous mistake," warning it could lead to "widespread nuclear proliferation throughout the Middle East."

Brian Romick, CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel, also criticized the decision, stating it was "a major strategic mistake" to provide nuclear technology without progress toward normalization with Israel. Conversely, Victoria Coates of the Heritage Foundation viewed it as a step towards "ample, clean power in the region" for countries aligning with the U.S.
