US President Donald Trump confirmed to FOX News on Monday the existence of a backchannel with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officials, following the expiration of a 60-day Memorandum of Understanding. Axios previously reported that Kurdistan Regional Government President Nechirvan Barzani was the secret intermediary. However, IRGC Spokesperson Brig.-Gen Hossein Mohebbi denied these claims, stating, “There is no dialogue taking place between IRGC officials and the Americans,” and called Trump's assertion “merely fantasy.” Trump also issued a warning to Oman, threatening to “bomb the s*** out of them” if they interfered with US control in the Strait of Hormuz, and reiterated that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons. Additionally, Trump mentioned a “different channel with Hamas” regarding the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, claiming Hamas agreed to “ultimately giving up their guns.”
