Trump overturns suspension of ICE traffic stops instituted after two deadly shootings

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday overturned the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) suspension of traffic stops, which had been instituted just one day prior. Trump stated on Truth Social, "We cannot give up one of ICE's most important and effective crime-fighting tools, the traffic stop." The suspension was initially implemented after two men were fatally shot during separate encounters with ICE involving traffic stops, leading to protests and questions regarding agents' lack of body cameras. The Department of Homeland Security acknowledged neither man was the intended target of deportation operations, and no evidence was provided to support claims that they posed a threat. Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, had previously described the suspension as a "temporary pause" for investigation.
