US President Donald Trump plans to continue using a Qatari-gifted Boeing 747 for upcoming travel, despite security concerns and the need for further upgrades, The Washington Post reported. This decision follows a July security incident in Turkey involving an Iranian assassination threat. The aircraft, which has already undergone a $400 million retrofit, requires additional work expected to take 60 days, starting in October. Trump stated the plane needs to be "maxed out" to allow travel "into any territory." The use of this gifted aircraft has sparked controversy regarding foreign gifts and delays in replacing the current Air Force One fleet, with the cost of new Boeing 747s now exceeding $5.6 billion. White House communications director Steven Cheung affirmed, "The new Air Force One is a state-of-the-art aircraft that has been fitted with high-level security protocols that ensure the safety of the President and his staff."
