Trump walks back agreement to give Ukraine license to produce Patriot missiles

US President Donald Trump has reversed his earlier agreement to grant Ukraine a license to produce Patriot interceptor missiles. Despite previously telling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he would provide the license, Trump stated to the Financial Times on Thursday that he was “not sure” about the decision, adding, “We don't really license equipment.” Zelensky had met with Lockheed Martin representatives, discussing “our joint capabilities related to Patriots and other systems,” and Ukraine's envoy to Washington confirmed ongoing discussions with the Pentagon for a production license, though it could take 12 months to five years. Trump emphasized his focus on ending the war, stating, “Very simply put, we want the war in Ukraine with Russia ended. I'm not looking for missiles. We're looking for peace.”
