UK police say former minister Widdecombe's murder was a targeted attack

British counter-terrorism police announced on Tuesday that the murder of former government minister Ann Widdecombe, found dead last Thursday at her rural southwest England home with "serious injuries," was a targeted attack. Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, head of Britain's counter-terrorism policing, stated, "It is clear that this was a targeted attack. We are still working to understand the extent of any planning or preparation and the motivation that sits behind that attack." A white British man was arrested on Saturday and subsequently rearrested on suspicion of terrorism. The investigation is running parallel to the murder inquiry, with police also exploring potential threats to other politicians, as Widdecombe, 78, was a prominent member of Nigel Farage's populist Reform UK.
