UK police step up security measures amid antisemitism concerns before Jewish holidays

Thames Valley Police are implementing heightened security measures, dubbed "Op Tishrei," to protect Jewish communities in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire during the upcoming High Holy Days, starting with Rosh Hashanah. This operation, which includes increased patrols by both armed and unarmed officers and specialist units, is a direct response to a rise in antisemitic incidents globally since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. Assistant Chief Constable Christian Bunt stated, "We have a dedicated operation to protect our Jewish communities... throughout the period so people can expect to see an increased police presence near synagogues and the local areas." The initiative is supported by Home Office funding and executed in collaboration with the Community Security Trust, aiming to deter crime and ensure a rapid response to any incidents.
