Ukrainian foreign minister says he discussed keeping tension low with Iranian counterpart

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday during the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss de-escalation. Sybiha stated on X that the meeting, a follow-up to a July phone call, focused on "mutual steps to prevent further aggravation of tensions between our countries." Ukraine, which has faced Iranian-designed drone attacks from Russia, offered its counter-drone technology to Middle Eastern countries. The ministers also exchanged views on the situations in the Middle East and Europe, as well as "various tracks of ongoing peace efforts." Sybiha reiterated Ukraine's support for restoring peace and stability in both regions and emphasized, "Diplomacy is about direct conversation, even in challenging circumstances."
