Ultra-Orthodox protesters block roads demanding end to IDF recruitment
Some protesters were seen holding signs asking US President Donald Trump to "save" the haredis from being recruited.
Ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) demonstrators protested against the conscription of Haredi men into the IDF, blocking roads outside recruitment centers in central Israel, including Tel Hashomer and Jerusalem, on Wednesday. Protesters displayed signs appealing to US President Donald Trump to intervene. These demonstrations occurred shortly before the High Court of Justice temporarily froze a new law passed by the Knesset that aimed to prevent the arrest and prosecution of Haredi draft evaders. In response to the court's decision, Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi stated that an order canceling or “suspending” a law had “no meaning” and urged law enforcement to disregard it.
