'Unjustified, irresponsible': Iran condemns UK bill designating IRGC as terror group

Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned Britain's designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terror group and security threat on Tuesday, calling the move "unjustified" and "irresponsible." Britain's new legislation, which amends the National Security Act 2023, bans support for the IRGC and a linked group, making it punishable by up to 14 years in prison. The ministry argued that the IRGC is an official part of Iran's armed forces and accused Britain of violating international law. While some UK politicians, like Zarah Sultana and George Galloway, criticized the decision, others, including MP Andy Burnham and Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, praised it. Burnham stated, "Supporting a group linked to death threats and attacks here in the UK... should absolutely be against the law."
