Upcoming Israel-Lebanon talks to take place in Washington instead of Rome, US State Department says

Ambassadors from Israel and Lebanon are scheduled to meet next week at the US State Department in Washington, D.C., instead of the previously planned location of Rome. This meeting will focus on "ongoing developments and the continued implementation of the trilateral framework," which is seen as crucial for restoring Lebanon's sovereignty and ensuring Israel's security. The first round of talks, held in Rome on August 4, were described as "positive" and included military personnel from both nations. US State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated that the discussions aim to advance the Trilateral Framework, including the pilot zone process, "verified disarmament of Hezbollah and other Iran-backed security threats," redeployment of Israeli forces, and establishing a comprehensive peace agreement. The next formal talks are anticipated to occur in Rome in October.
