US, Canadian healthcare failing to address rising antisemitism since Oct. 7, review says

A new peer-reviewed narrative review, "Anatomy of Antisemitism in Health Professions Education and Practice," indicates a significant rise in antisemitism within healthcare since October 7, 2023. The review, synthesizing evidence from multiple countries including the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, found that fewer than 2% of surveyed healthcare institutions have incorporated antisemitism education into anti-discrimination training. Surveys cited in the review reveal that 88% of Jewish medical students and physicians in the US experienced antisemitism post-October 7, compared to 40% prior, with similar increases reported in the UK and Canada. The review emphasizes the need for improved education, engagement, empathy, and enforcement to address this pervasive issue, which authors Dr. Hedy S. Wald and Dr. Steven Roth state "can no longer be ignored."
