US expands Iran sanctions, targets rail, automotive and metals industries

The US State Department announced on Thursday additional sanctions against networks operating in Iran's railway, automotive, and metals industries as part of Operation Economic Outcast. The measures target networks in the Middle East, East Asia, and Europe accused of helping Iran circumvent existing sanctions and maintain access to international markets.The US Treasury Department also expanded its sector-based sanctions designations to include Iran's automotive and railway industries, allowing Washington to take action against entities operating in those sectors. According to the State Department, the measures are part of a broader effort to restrict resources that Iran could use to support terrorism, threaten regional stability, and pursue its military objectives.The State Department accused Iran's leadership of exploiting state-owned railway companies, automobile manufacturers, and metals producers to sustain its activities.
