US military operations killed 153 civilians in 2025, official says, citing Pentagon assessment

A US official, citing Pentagon assessments, stated that US military operations in 2025 resulted in 153 civilian deaths and 243 injuries. This figure significantly contrasts with the 2024 assessment of two civilian deaths and two injuries. All reported civilian casualties in 2025 stemmed from three US strikes in Yemen in April, which the US Central Command (CENTCOM) assessed "more likely than not" resulted in civilian harm. As of February 2026, CENTCOM was reviewing 15 additional incidents in Yemen based on NGO reports. The Pentagon report, however, excluded casualties from US strikes in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific, where US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) reported no civilian casualties in 2025. Separately, US military strikes against suspected drug vessels in the Eastern Pacific have killed over 200 people since September 2025, with human rights organizations deeming these actions unlawful.
