US prosecutors drop subpoenas of NYTimes reporters over Air Force One article

The US Justice Department, under President Donald Trump, has withdrawn subpoenas issued to New York Times journalists regarding an article on security concerns with Air Force One. The subpoenas, issued by Manhattan US Attorney Jay Clayton on July 10, sought to compel reporters to reveal sources for a story detailing that Trump used an older Air Force One because a new Qatari-donated plane lacked defensive features. Prosecutor Sean Buckley stated, "The government is prepared unilaterally to withdraw the subpoenas," though he noted the investigation is ongoing and future subpoenas are possible. The Times had argued the subpoenas violated First Amendment protections and internal Justice Department policies on journalists.
