US public opinion increasingly negative toward Israel, polls show

Recent polls indicate a growing negative shift in US public opinion toward Israel, driven by concerns over its military campaign in Gaza. A Pew Research Center survey from July revealed that 42% of Americans viewed the Israeli people unfavorably in 2026, up from 28% in 2019, with favorable views of the Israeli government dropping to 32% from 41% in the same period. The AP-NORC poll, also released in July, showed that 40% of Americans believe the US is “too supportive” of Israel, an increase from 27% in August 2023. This sentiment is particularly pronounced among Democrats, with 58% holding this view, up from 45% two years prior. Even among Republicans, traditionally strong supporters of Israel, a decline in support is evident, especially among younger voters. An April Pew poll found that 57% of Republicans aged 18 to 49 viewed Israel unfavorably, compared to 25% of those 50 and older.
