US still committed to disarming Hamas, source says, after Katz claims it will not happen – report
"There is no need to believe or guess," the source told KAN News. "Only to cooperate with the Peace Council's plan to remove Hamas from all its weapons and rule in Gaza."
The United States remains committed to disarming Hamas, despite Defense Minister Israel Katz's earlier assertion that "everyone understands" it will not happen, according to a source close to the Board of Peace (BoP) and a Washington source. The BoP source stated, "Only to cooperate with the Peace Council's plan to remove Hamas from all its weapons and rule in Gaza." US President Donald Trump's 20-point plan for disarmament involves either voluntary disarming by Hamas or forced disarmament by the IDF with international backing, followed by an International Stabilization Force. The US also opposes the removal of Gaza residents. Katz later moderated his stance, stating that emigration from Gaza would only advance "when the US administration decides to return to the initiative and promote it."
