US Supreme Court removes judicial decision blocking Trump's mail-in ballot restrictions

The US Supreme Court on Monday lifted a judicial decision that had blocked President Donald Trump's administration from implementing an executive order restricting mail-in ballots in 23 states and Washington, D.C. The justices granted an emergency request from the Justice Department to pause an injunction issued in June by US Judge Indira Talwani. However, the Supreme Court did not act on a separate injunction from Talwani, issued on August 11, which blocked the U.S. Postal Service nationwide from enforcing tighter rules for voting by mail. Trump's March executive order aimed to direct the Department of Homeland Security to compile eligible voter lists and prioritize prosecuting officials who issue ballots to ineligible voters, while also requiring the Postal Service to deliver ballots only to approved lists. The court's 6-3 conservative majority saw three liberal justices dissent from the decision.
