Vivian Aisen appointed new ambassador to Colombia as Israel strengthens ties with Latin America

Vivian Aisen has been appointed as Israel's new ambassador to Colombia, a move unanimously approved by the government and announced by the Foreign Ministry on Sunday. This appointment is part of Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar's efforts to renew and restore relations between Israel and Colombia, following the severance of diplomatic ties by Colombian President Gustavo Petro in May 2024 over Israel's military operations in Gaza. Aisen, who previously served as ambassador to Macedonia, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "We are living through a very special moment in the relations between our two countries." The full restoration of diplomatic relations is expected after Colombia's new president is inaugurated on August 7, and will include the opening of a Colombian embassy in Jerusalem.
