Washington tells UN to pick chief to return to its ‘primary purpose,’ not more ‘absurd, politicized, woke ideology’

The U.S. State Department has urged the United Nations to select a new secretary-general who will return the organization to its “primary purpose of maintaining peace and security in the world, rather than the absurd, politicized, woke ideology.” This statement comes as the UN Security Council prepares for its third straw poll to replace António Guterres. The U.S. is seeking a “practical, driven and reform-focused candidate” to restore competent management and streamline the organization. Eight candidates remain, with no clear frontrunner. Former Costa Rican vice president Rebeca Grynspan, a Jewish economist, and Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett of Guyana, have performed well in previous polls. Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon stated, “The election for the next secretary-general is a test for the future of the United Nations,” emphasizing the need for a leader prepared to change the system and stand against terrorism, antisemitism, and hypocrisy.
