'We do not have a solution': Israel weighs sweeping drone ban over FPV attack fears

Israel is considering a sweeping ban on civilian drone use due to fears that first-person view (FPV) attack drones could be launched from neighboring countries or the West Bank. This proposal, discussed by the Security Cabinet, aims to help security forces identify and respond to potential threats, despite no current intelligence indicating FPV drone operations in the West Bank. An official stated, "This is a very serious threat for which we do not have a solution." Concerns include drones targeting senior government officials or key state institutions. The IDF recently killed a Hezbollah cell in southern Lebanon operating FPV drones near the Blue Line, and Iran is reportedly attempting to expand FPV drone use into the West Bank. FPV drones, especially fiber-optic guided models, are difficult to counter due to their immunity to electronic jamming. Since October 7, 2023, approximately 400 drones have been confiscated in the West Bank as a preventive measure.
