White House reviews candidates to replace Hegseth deputy Feinberg, sources say

The White House has been reviewing candidates to replace US Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg since at least June, according to three sources familiar with the discussions. This comes amid high staff turnover at the Pentagon, including the recent resignation of US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll. While no decision has been made to remove Feinberg, and White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated, "These so-called anonymous 'sources' have no idea what they are talking about," the review has included discussions with senators regarding potential confirmation support. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, however, publicly stated that Feinberg has his full support and “isn't going anywhere.” Feinberg, appointed last year, has focused on accelerating munitions production and reshaping Pentagon investments, but has faced scrutiny over slow progress and potential conflicts of interest related to his former firm, Cerberus Capital Management.
