Why does the Israeli left endorse blood libels against their own nation?

In a JNS "Think Twice" episode, Israeli historian Gadi Taub discussed why some Israeli leftists, including those at Haaretz, appear to endorse "blood libels" against Israel. Taub suggests that these "progressives" turn against their own country to maintain standing with other leftists and avoid antisemitic boycotts, though this strategy often fails. He argues they fail to connect their anti-Zionism and accusations of "genocide" with the genocidal intentions of those they aid, such as Hamas. Taub states they justify this by viewing Palestinian Arabs as mirror images of Israelis and interpreting threats as either meaningless or justified, often labeling genocidal terrorism as "resistance." He links Haaretz's shift towards anti-Zionism, particularly since before October 7, 2023, to efforts to prevent judicial reform, believing that unelected Supreme Court judges could advance the "demise of Zionism" without voter approval.
