Widow of Oct. 7 victim denied entry to Israel: 'Callousness and lack of sensitivity'

Jovel Santiago Castellvi, a Filipino caregiver whose husband, Paul Vincent Castellvi, was murdered on October 7 at Kibbutz Be'eri, is being denied entry to Israel to attend a wedding. Jovel, who was nine months pregnant at the time, formed a close bond with Nadav Kipnis and Sharon Lavon, whose parents were killed alongside Paul. Nadav and Sharon are now marrying and invited Jovel, who is recognized as a widow of a hostile act victim, and her son, Jaysen Paul, to the ceremony.

“Callousness and lack of sensitivity”

However, the Population and Immigration Authority has refused her entry, citing her previous departure from Israel and her current request to settle in the country, which they claim does not meet procedural requirements. Attorney Michal Pomeranz stated that denying entry to Jovel, who gave birth alone after her husband's murder, demonstrates “callousness and lack of sensitivity.” Jovel expressed deep disappointment, emphasizing the importance of attending the wedding and her desire to rebuild her life in Israel, where she feels understood.
