Woman charged over vandalism of Washington's World War Two memorial

A Kentucky woman, Melissa Farris, has been charged with two felony counts for vandalizing the World War Two memorial in Washington, D.C. The memorial was defaced on Thursday with bubbly soap in the fountain and graffiti stating "Clean hands Dirty $" painted in red and green. Farris reportedly posted videos of herself spray-painting the memorial on social media, where she described herself as a "pirate captain." According to the criminal complaint, Farris stated, "Someone has to make choices that are different, and I am accountable for my actions." She had been arrested three days prior for unlawfully camping near the memorial. US President Donald Trump condemned the vandalism, linking it to a previous incident at the Reflecting Pool.
