Zamir holds meeting with General Staff Forum on building IDF, expanding robotics development

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir convened the General Staff Forum on Monday to discuss the ongoing development of the IDF's robotic capabilities and overall force structure, emphasizing that “today's force development is tomorrow's victory.” The meeting, which lasted three and a half hours, addressed strategic planning for at least three years ahead and corresponding budget adjustments. Since taking office, Zamir has prioritized upgrading the Armored and Combat Engineering Corps, establishing reserve brigades, and significantly increasing the procurement of armored vehicles and tanks. He also stressed the importance of integrating autonomous systems across air, land, and soon sea operations, advocating for the establishment of a dedicated autonomous systems branch. Key developments include:

• Expanding the Multidimensional Unit to serve as a technological engine for the IDF.
• Instructing the robotics unit in the Technology and Logistics Directorate to increase procurement and accelerate robotic developments with the Defense Ministry.
• Significant attention to the 96th Division in building the David Brigades and reserve combat battalions, including procurement of JLTV armored vehicles.
• Progress in establishing the Ramon Brigade, a reserve infantry brigade, and the 38th Division, formed in response to lessons from October 7.
• Strengthening the Combat Engineering Corps with specialized weaponry and expanding reserve forces.
• Joint efforts with the Defense Ministry to advance procurement of fighter aircraft, aerial refueling aircraft, attack helicopters, and advanced munitions.
