Five killed after Amazon cargo plane overruns runway at Miami airport

Five people were killed and five injured on Sunday after an Amazon cargo plane overran a runway while landing at Miami International Airport. The 32-year-old Boeing 767, operated by 21 Air, was flying from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it overran Runway 30 around 2 p.m. local time, striking several vehicles and catching fire. Three of the injured are in critical condition. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Raied “Ray” Jadallah confirmed that several individuals were trapped and rescued from vehicles. The cause of the overrun is unclear, though air traffic control audio indicates pilots did not declare an emergency. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel stated, “Our deepest sympathies go out to the families, loved ones, and all those affected by this devastating loss.” The FAA and NTSB are investigating the incident, which led to a temporary ground stop at the airport.
