Kansas U.S. House delegation in unison on funding for Israel

On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 104-314 against an amendment to strip $3.3 billion in aid to Israel from a national security spending bill. This vote highlighted a growing division within the Democratic Party regarding U.S. support for Israel, particularly in the aftermath of the Gaza war. While most Republicans and a significant number of Democrats voted to preserve the aid, over 100 Democrats supported the amendment, signaling shifting attitudes. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who opposed the measure, stated, “that for the good of Israel and the Palestinian people, American policy in the Middle East must change.” The amendment, introduced by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, argued the funds could be better spent domestically, while Democratic Rep. Steny Hoyer warned it would “dangerously undermine American national security.” All four members of the Kansas House delegation voted against withholding the funds.
