New round of talks between Israel and Lebanon to begin August 4 in Rome

The next round of US-brokered talks between Israel and Lebanon is scheduled for August 4-6 in Rome, focusing on implementing a framework agreement for peace. Technical teams will discuss expanding pilot zones, resolving border issues, and a comprehensive peace and security agreement. The State Department stated, "The Trilateral Framework is the only path to lasting peace." This follows a March 2 war initiated by Hezbollah rocket fire into Israel. The previous month's deal called for the Lebanese military to deploy in southern Lebanon, with Israel withdrawing from its security zone contingent on Hezbollah disarmament. While Israel conducted an initial withdrawal, concerns remain about further withdrawals ahead of the October Knesset election and the Lebanese Armed Forces' capacity to disarm Hezbollah.
