A Rishon Lezion lawyer was shot dead in his office Tuesday, allegedly by a disgruntled client who turned himself in hours later, police said.

A neighboring lawyer saw a “client familiar to him” enter the victim’s office at about 1 p.m., and then heard yelling followed by “at least four gunshots,” Police Central District Commander Superintendent Amir Cohen told reporters at the scene while the manhunt was still underway.

Medics who rushed to the office found the lawyer, a man in his 50s, not breathing and without a pulse, and pronounced him dead on the scene, according to the Magen David Adom ambulance service.

Cohen stressed that “this is not a nationalist incident,” but rather “a business dispute — apparently the murderer was unhappy with the service he received” from the victim, a torts lawyer.

“The identity of the murderer is known to us,” and he has a record of “lesser priors” including property and firearms offenses that had not suggested “his capacity for murder,” Cohen said.

Police later said in a statement that the murder suspect, a Ramle resident in his 20s, had turned himself in at the Lachish regional police station.

The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel. But when I heard about a high casualty incident – ballistic missile impacts in Arad and Dimona that left nearly 200 people wounded – I drank a cup of coffee, packed a bag, and headed south.

There, I spoke with Shilgit, the head of an after-school program for underprivileged youth. Standing outside her destroyed center, Shilgit said it was a miracle that no children were hurt and spoke about the community coming together in the hours since.

As a Times of Israel reporter, I’m committed to telling stories of resilience like Shilgit’s. But my colleagues and I can't do this alone.
