Sa'ar, Herzog meet officials from DRC in tie strengthening visit to Israel

On Tuesday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and President Isaac Herzog hosted officials from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), including Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner and President Felix Tshisekedi, in Jerusalem. Sa'ar announced the visit on X/Twitter, stating that comprehensive discussions were held on bilateral relations, Israel's security challenges, and the implementation of the peace agreement between Congo and Rwanda. He expressed hope for a "significant leap forward in relations between the countries." President Herzog also welcomed Tshisekedi, calling him "my dear friend." This visit continues a history of re-established ties between Israel and the DRC, which were initially severed in 1973 but restored in the early 1980s. Tshisekedi has actively strengthened cooperation in agriculture, technology, and security, with previous reports indicating positive discussions and mutual opportunities.
