The plan, known as the Israel FUTURES Act (Section 1217), would establish a permanent initiative to accelerate bilateral defense research, testing, and integration of Israeli technology into U.S. weapons systems. Critics online have called the plan “treasonous,” citing concerns about U.S. sovereignty, potential exposure of sensitive technology, and intelligence risks, referencing the Jonathan Pollard espionage case and past issues with Iron Dome integration. Supporters, however, argue it would strengthen U.S. defense, accelerate technology development, and protect America’s technological advantage. The Senate motion to begin debating the bill failed 50-46, falling short of the 60 votes required, with all 50 votes in favor coming from Republicans.
