‘Stop destroying Jerusalem’: Haredim target cafe open on Shabbat for 3rd week in a row

For the third consecutive Saturday, ultra-Orthodox demonstrators protested against Cafe Basimta in Jerusalem for operating on Shabbat. The cafe, which opened a little over a month ago, has become a regular target for Haredi protesters, who chanted "Stop destroying Jerusalem" at customers. In response, secular counter-protesters have gathered to support the cafe. This week, police erected barriers to prevent protesters from reaching the venue. Jerusalem's deputy mayor, Adir Schwartz, stated that Haredi protesters are trying to "terrorize the business owners and the Jerusalem public, just because they chose to open the cafe on Shabbat," adding that "a handful of extremists cannot dictate to Jerusalemites how to live."
