Uganda unveils Yoni Netanyahu memorial at Entebbe Airport 50 years after rescue operation

A memorial honoring Lt.-Col. Yonatan “Yoni” Netanyahu was unveiled on Saturday at the old terminal of Entebbe Airport in Uganda, 50 years after he was killed during the historic rescue operation. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda's military chief and son of President Yoweri Museveni, attended the ceremony. Kainerugaba stated the memorial symbolizes the enduring friendship and security partnership between Uganda and Israel, calling Netanyahu's sacrifice "an enduring symbol of courage, duty, and selfless service." He also commemorated the hostages killed in connection with Operation Entebbe and Ugandan soldiers who died, emphasizing that the current Ugandan government is a democracy, unlike Idi Amin's regime. Barak Orland, an Israeli national living in Uganda, also attended, describing the memorial as a testament to two nations standing together.
