NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani considers Netanyahu arrest ahead of UN General Assembly visit
The New York mayor said Netanyahu "belongs in the Hague" and aims to act in accordance with the International Criminal Court, though he's not sure he has the authority to issue the order to the NYPD.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is considering ordering the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits New York for the UN General Assembly in September. Mamdani stated, "I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in the Hague" and called him a "war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court (ICC)." He is in discussions with the city's law department regarding his legal authority to do so. Netanyahu dismissed Mamdani's threats, accusing the mayor of supporting Hamas. Israel's Consul General in New York, Ofir Akunis, asserted that Mamdani has "no authority" to arrest Netanyahu.
