Government to approve new police compound in eastern Jerusalem

The Israeli government is set to approve a proposal on Tuesday for a new police compound in eastern Jerusalem, the first such facility in over a decade. Presented by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, the initiative aims to bolster law enforcement and police presence in the area. The three-story compound will be built at Beit Alhanan, near the Old City, and will serve as an operational base for Border Police officers. The National Security Ministry will allocate NIS 28 million for the project over four years, with funding distributed from 2026 to 2029. Ben-Gvir stated this is "enormous good news for the residents of Jerusalem," emphasizing a "revolution in governance in the eastern part of the city" and calling the compound "another force multiplier for security and governance."
